Ferry Elementary 2024/2025

Introduction and Announcements (Emily Walker)
○ Meeting called to order 7:04pm
○ Meeting attendee introductions and welcome
- Approval of Minutes
- May 2024, Motion: April Blunden; Second: Shannon Fulcher. Approved as written
- Financial Report (Jenelle Dellario)
○ Savings $43,108
- Checking $28,591
○ One pending deposit $555.99, two outstanding checks for reimbursements to be signed
- Plan to order additional checks
- Non-profit filing due 10/1/24, cost $20 filed annually
- 2024-2025 budget was approved via electronic vote
- Principal Comments (Jodie Randazzo)
○ Assembly during 1st week of school (wrestler)-well received by students and motivational message. ○ Raise craze assembly went well, Raise Craze kindness stickering started this week at school (students caught being kind).
Teacher Representatives (Kirk Sattelmeier, Sandy Cameron)
○ Teacher treats and soup bar – Thanks from all teaching staff.
○ Excited to participate in Raise Craze
Recruiting/Membership
○ Open positions for 2024/2025
- Beautification chair (outside areas, planting flowers in Spring)
- Family Fun night chair (did not hold last year, need chair to hold event, if no chair will skip event, consider outside venue like skating rink)
iii. Assemblies (need co-chair with Shannon Fulcher)
- Welcome committee: seeking chair for 2025/2026 school year
- Parents’ Night Out (would like to hold event but need chair to run event)
- Falcon Fest (Carolyn Anderson historically chairs, need 1-2 co-chairs)
vii. Any additional interest in helping with co-chairing events, sign up genius/sheets to follow
- Fundraising/Events and Chairperson Reports
○ Chairperson responsibilities (Stephanie Cleland)
- Keep a binder of info to pass along to future chair (include info, maps, any helpful data)
- Check request. Money count sheet. Building request forms (would request through Emily when needing space for organizing an event)
○ Fall Fundraiser: Raise Craze (April Blunden)
- Monetary projection trending higher than previous year ($8,156.00 raised so far, goal $25,000, 97 kids participating so far, 199 acts of kindness, Mrs.Lucido in lead for acts of kindness and dollars raised) ii. Weekly voluntary student kindness activities during lunch hour (9/27 Sidewalk chalk, 10/4 bag decorating, 10/11 rock painting. <<< Volunteers needed during lunch to help with stations
iii. 10/8-Family volunteer night: assembly of sandwiches and bagged lunches
○ Haunted Garage (Nicole Jensen-presented by Emily Walker)
- Sunday, October 6 from 6-9pm
- Need volunteers in 30 min blocks to help with event
iii. Can pre-order tickets ahead of time through school (or online for all & non-Ferry nights)
- Not handicap accessible, strollers not allowed, under 16yo needs a chaperone
○ Trunk or Treat (Tori Kin)
- Saturday, October 19, 2024 1-4pm, trunk-or-treating 2 hours and then additional time for fun/games on blacktop
- New this year: Costume contest (Principal Randazzo judging)
- Gift card prizes: including from Kitty deluxe, sweet dreams, pink elephant cupcakes
- Coffee truck in parking lot (iced, hot, and milkshakes)
iii. New directional foot traffic for student safety and decrease repeated trick-or-treating
- Sign up Genius to follow
○ Fall Book Fair (Stephanie Cleland, Sam Vormelker)
- Held in the Computer Lab
- Thursday, October 10 for parents only between 9am-6pm
- October 7-10 students/classes to shop
- Sign up genius coming out for volunteer sign up
- Will have e-wallet option for students shopping
- Scholastic fundraising funds (Approximately $5,000 remain)
- One book One school reading project:
- Looking into using scholastic dollars to buy the copies of Charlotte's Web book (Estimated
cost $1,750 total for project)
- Birthday book comes out of scholastic money (student is allowed to use book vending machine to choose)
- Possibly using book tokens for incentive for teachers to pass out to students
○ Glow Dance (Amber Strasz, Val Gjonaj-Presented by Emily Walker): reward/celebration to end Raise Craze fundraiser
- Volunteers needed, sign up genius to follow
- Board of Education Report (Nicole Jensen-presented by Emily Walker)
○ November 5 election day
- 4 board seats open
- Millage pending, would bring in lots of money in sinking fund to schools for improvements
iii. League of women voters
- PTO Council Report (April Blunden)
○ October 1, 2024 is the first meeting this year. No updates today, will report back at next month's PTO meeting.
- Communities United In Diversity (Krystle English)
○ First meeting of the year at Defer – October 18, 2024. No updates for today’s PTO meeting. ○ Open to anyone who wants to attend
- Community Resources
○ Kevin’s Song (Nicole Jensen-presented by Emily Walker)
- Available budget for 3 staff members to attend conference annually
- 1/23/25-The Inn at St. John in Plymouth, various continuing education offered
○ The Family Center (Emily Walker)
- No updates for today. Free events held, open to anyone who wants to attend.
○ GP Foundation for Public Education (Emily Walker)
- No updates for today
- Old business
○ Sun shades (April Blunden): product ordered, delayed delivery to installer, estimated 2-day job to install, date pending for installation.
- Fundraised from PTO several years ago, delayed due to covid, has been previously voted on, funds have already been allocated/earmarked for this project and approved.
- New Business
○ Falcon’s Nest: new website with up to date info on Ferry events, spirit wear, sign up sheets, event details, ticket sales, family directory (Ferrypto.org)
○ Proposed vote: If 1 person has more than 1 voting position, they only get 1 vote. If 1 person has more than 1 position but has a co-chair, then the co-chair would get that vote.
- Motion to approve: April Blunden; Second: Stephanie Cleland. All in favor: majority voted to support. Passed as proposed above.
○ Update on Ferry Sphere vote to reimburse Ferry family donor: approved via majority rules from electronic/email vote prior to today’s PTO meeting.
○ Seeking suggestions for new PTO funded projects (ideas proposed by teachers have included chrome computer carts)
○ Thank you to Carolyn Anderson for all of your hard work for Falcon Fest!
